With the goal of improving outcomes and quality of life for patients with head and neck cancers, Dr. Bur has an active clinical research program focused on identifying and mitigating patient and disease-related risk factors for tumor recurrence and progression. His educational background and prior work experience in electrical engineering allows him to combine his interests in health care and technology to build a research focus that spans multiple disciplines. Of particular interest to him is the use of artificial intelligence, including deep learning, to develop predictive algorithms to enhance personalized care in head and neck oncology. He mentors residents and medical students interested in head and neck oncology on clinical research methodology and machine learning. Additionally, Dr. Bur has a clinical practice in head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
