Dr. Janakiraman Subramanian is the Director of Thoracic Oncology at the Saint Lukes Cancer Institute (SLCI). He is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Missouri Kansas City. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Lukes Hospital in Saint Louis. He did his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis, Missouri. He served as faculty at Washington University in Saint Louis and University of Tennessee in Knoxville before assuming his current position at SLCI.
Dr. Subramanian has served as the project manager for the multi center Tissue Source Site (TSS) network for The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Project. The TSS network was instrumental in providing the tumor and normal tissue samples for the TCGA project. He was involved in some of the first whole genome sequencing projects in lung cancer. These projects were responsible for our understanding of the differences between lung cancer in never smokers and tobacco smokers at the genomic level. His current focus has been on translating the cancer ‘omics’ data to guide day to day clinical decisions. To achieve this end he has been leading the development of a multicenter prospective registry trial at the Saint Lukes Cancer Institute (SLCI) to implement precision medicine based on molecular testing in the treatment of patients with advanced stage solid tumors.
