Dr. Cheung draws on a background of Microbiology and Computation Geometry to tackle bioinformatics problems ranging from literature-based medical topic summarization and similarity in the PubMed database to his current primary research domain – algorithmic analysis of high-throughput epigenomic sequencing data. He focuses primarily on the analysis of methylation and histone chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing data, as well as gene expression and variant analysis. He has also collaborated on projects investigating his broad interests including privacy and data sharing vulnerabilities of epigenetic data, the BluePrint large-scale haematopoeietic epigenome sequencing and links between allele-specific methylation and gene expression.
